Lockout tagout padlocks are the personal locks that keep an isolation in place until the person who applied them removes them. Steel is the everyday choice: the 38 mm steel LOTO padlock takes knocks, weather and years of use. Nylon does not conduct electricity, so the 38 mm nylon LOTO padlock is the padlock for electrical isolations and for plants where a metal body must not touch live parts. Aluminium is light and colour-coded; brass suits corrosive environments. All of them fit the same hasps and lockout devices.
Keyed-different is the rule for personal lockout: one worker, one key, so nobody can remove somebody else's lock. Keyed-alike sets suit one person who locks several points during the same job, or a team whose master key is held by the supervisor. A safety padlock is not master-keyed by default, has a key-retaining cylinder so it cannot be left open without the key, and carries a label field for the name of the person who applied it. Its body is colour-coded and its shackle is sized for hasps and lockout devices. The 38 mm slim steel padlock adds a thin 4 mm shackle for tight lockout points; the steel wire padlock reaches around awkward shapes.
